What we are assessing

An ADHD assessment is not simply a symptom checklist. Clinicians consider whether ADHD diagnostic criteria are met and whether the pattern has been present from earlier life, occurs across relevant settings and causes meaningful impairment.

They also consider alternative or co-existing explanations where appropriate. The purpose is careful clinical judgement, not to force your experiences into a predetermined result.

What to have ready

  • Information about childhood and school years where available
  • Examples of current difficulties at home, work, study or in relationships
  • Your current medicines and relevant medical history
  • Previous mental-health or neurodevelopmental assessments, if any
  • Any requested informant information
After your assessment

Clear next steps, whatever the outcome.

If ADHD is diagnosed

You receive a detailed report, personalised recommendations and a clear explanation of what the diagnosis means. You can share the report with your GP if you wish.

Treatment and titration

Where clinically appropriate and available through our pathway, treatment options can be discussed, including medication initiation and titration alongside non-medication support.

If ADHD is not diagnosed

You still receive a clear clinical explanation and recommendations about other possibilities, support or further assessment that may be useful.
